Meet the TexTESOL 2 Board

David Woods, President

  • VICE-PRESIDENT/PRESIDENT-ELECT

    Publicize TexTESOL II conferences and events to potential participants, other affiliate newsletters, and local business or professional organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, newspapers, and local school districts.

    Attend meetings of the Council of Presidents at the state conference and TESOL International convention, or arrange for a representative from TexTESOL II to attend.

    Preside at meetings in absence of the President.

    Set the theme for the annual fall conference at the beginning of the calendar year.

    Determine the fall conference site at the beginning of the calendar year and the spring workshop site in the fall.

    As Conference Chair, appoint committee chairs four months prior to the conference.

    Working with the Treasurer, determine the budget based on the prior year’s conference and monitor expenditures.

    Oversee the call for proposals, call for publishers, registration process and conference program.

    Preside over the annual fall conference.

    Take care of post-conference tasks (e.g. thank-you notes, reimbursements for valid expenses, etc.) no later than two weeks after the conference.

    Provide a brief report outlining the preparation and outcomes of the conference to be handed down to the following year’s Conference Chair.

    Serve as contact/resource person for next year’s conference.

    May sign checks written on the TexTESOL II bank account.

  • TREASURER

    Prepare and present treasurer’s reports at each Board meeting.

    Pay bills, issue reimbursements, and make deposits on a timely basis.

    Work with the Conference Chair to pay conference bills in a timely fashion.

    Submit an annual financial statement at the first Board meeting following the fall conference.

    The Treasurer shall file the required tax information each year to maintain the affiliate’s non-profit status.

    May sign checks written on the TexTESOL II bank account.

  • OUTREACH CHAIR

    Recruit new TexTESOL II members and serve to scout new possible board members.

    Delegate an assistant to provide an extended orientation and/or mentorship to a potential board member as a follow-up after their having attended an initial Board meeting.

    Expenses for Outreach Chair travel expenses may be included at the discretion of the board.

Outreach

  • ADVOCACY CHAIR

    Keep up-to-date on issues of concern to the TexTESOL II membership.

    Provide information and feedback to the Board regarding socio-political issues.

    Provide content for newsletter column.

    Advocate for TexTESOL II members and ESL learners. If needed, organize forums and workshops.

    Provide a workshop/booth at the fall conference to communicate local, state, and national issues to the membership.

    Be a liaison between TexTESOL II and TESOL International on advocacy issues.

    Represent TexTESOL II at the annual TESOL Advocacy & Policy Summit.

  • MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

    Maintain and update a computer database of new and existing members.

    Send confirmation of membership to new members.

    Coordinate mailings to members.

    Coordinate with the Outreach Chair to compile a database for recruiting potential members and send out recruitment mailings as needed.

    Invite inactive members to renew.

  • Post pertinent items associated with the affiliate on social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
